That didn’t take long! Fresh of yesterday’s announcement that Eddie Murphy will not be hosting the 84th Annual Academy Awards, the news broke today that Billy Crystal will be hosting the telecast for the 9th time come February 26th. Crystal last hosted the show in 2004, which drew an audience of 43.56 million–the largest audience the show has seen in the last 10 years!
This quick turnaround with naming a new host makes me wonder: do they have someone agree to play emergency back up every year? It seems pretty convenient that they were able to announce the new host so quickly!
What do you think of this replacement? How many jokes about this situation is Billy Crystal likely to make in the opening monologue?
