Just kidding! Mr. Eddie Murphy (who is apparently reclusive, according to the Associated Press) will be lending his comedic talents to the role of Oscar emcee in February.
I think this is a fine choice; it’s clear the Academy felt pressure to name a stellar host for February’s show, after this year’s experiment with Anne Hathaway and James Franco. They could have gone with someone a little bit more relevant (Stephen Colbert or perhaps Zach Galifianakis?), but I do think they made a smart choice going with an established comedian for the gig. Eddie is a very funny guy, no doubt about it, and it’ll be great to add some actual comedy to the show.
What do you think of the pick? Does Eddie Murphy as host make you more likely to tune in on February 26th?
